Metropolitan Police Virus – Ukash Scam # Update It seems that the so called Met Police Virus is doing the rounds again in the UK. I’ve had a few infected laptops in for repair down here in sunny Salisbury and I’ve still to work out how exactly this trojan is being spread. In a few cases it would appear that the trojan came from an ‘adult’ website that a customer may have visited but this doesn’t answer the question for other customers. If you can point me to a source of more information about the Metropolitan Police Virus then I would be very grateful. Below is a summary of what you will see on your screen if your computer is infected. Under the laws of the United Kingdom and investigation of Metropolitan Police Service and Strathclyde Police Your computer is locked to prevent illegal activity in the network. I’d almost forgotton about this nasty trojan infection known as trojan.zbot.cbcgen asking you to to send ukash money because it’s a scam. It also mentions this email address : surcharge@cyber-metropolitan-police.co.uk The domain of which is registered in Poland A few days ago I had a frantic call from a customer saying that [...]

Website not showing up on Google Do you have a website that is not showing up on the Google search engine?. If it’s a new website then it may just be that Google has not indexed it just yet. It does take time for search engines to index websites but sometimes it depends on how well, if at all, a website has been optimised for the search engines. Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO as it is usually known is the process or ‘art’ of optimising the content and standing of a website. As far as on-page optimisation is concerned, an SEO will look at the source code of the website to see whether the correct wording has been used in the title for your website’s given use. If you are a plumber in Portsmouth then the SEO will make sure that these 2 key words along with any other relevant keywords are included. Some webdesign packages leave the default title as Home or Home Page which is of no use to man nor beast if you’re a plumber from Portsmouth. An SEO will also look at a couple of meta tags, the most important one being the meta description tag. [...]

How to set up a wireless router Before buying a wireless router to connect to your computer you need to make sure that your computer has the necessary connection of the back as this can be a problem on some older computers. You need to make sure that it’s fitted with an ethernet or LAN (local area network) port as shown in the photo below. If your computer does not have an ethernet port then it’s possible to buy and fit an ethernet card and fit it to one of the spare PCI slots in the bottom of the computer. Once you have established that you have an ethernet port you can plug one end of the ethernet cable into the port and the other end into the port at the rear of the wireless router. There are usually 4 ports provided to allow for other computers to be plugged in. The wireless router it will usually come with an installation CD which you would insert into your computer to allow you to fill out your broadband connection details to allow the router to connect to the internet. This can sometimes problems so it is often better to log in to [...]

My wife and I went shopping yesterday afternoon (Saturday,Nov 12). We chose to shop at the big tesco superstore in Salisbury on the Southampton Rd (A36) as they usually have what we want. We’d finished shopping at around 3.30 PM so headed back to the car to see the biggest gridlocked carpark we’d ever seen. Trying to get out of Tesco’s car park took well over an hour due to traffic congestion at the Bourne Centre roundabout at it’s junction with Southampton Rd. What was even more frustrating was that some of the Tesco customers didn’t show any consideration at all when it came to letting vehicles out into the queue, some of them just looked the other way and stubbornly allowed anyone to pull out into the queue of traffic Surely the wiltshire traffic planning team saw this one coming, the traffic congestion is absoluely appalling every weekend. Maybe we will avoid Tesco in future or just avoid it at weekends.. We shall see Rant over

I’ve been asked to do a memory (RAM) upgrade on a Dell Inspiron mini, it’s a great little netbook running Microsoft Windows 7 but only has 1GB of memory at the moment and the customer wants a bit more to improve performance. Please ensure that you wear an earthed anti-static strap when working on computers and laptops as static electricity can damage electronic components. The memory is housed in a small compartment under the keyboard so the keyboard has to be removed. To do so we need to turn the netbook over and remove the three screws that are highlighted in the photo below Once the screws have been removed, turn the net book back over and gently remove the keyboard without putting too much stress on the keys as they come off quite easily. Once the keyboard is free you can either gently remove the ribbon cable from the motherboard or place the keyboard out of the way. The ribbon cable is retained by small clips as shown in the photo below.. These both need to be slid gently towards the left so as to release the ribbon. To the right of this is a small silver coloured compartment [...]

It seems that we had a fire in a derelict house in Salisbury this afternoon – October 9th 2011. It was around 4pm when I noticed a fire engine go past with its light flashing and it stopped at the junction of Coldharbour Lane and Marsh Lane. There is a deserted house at the junction that has been boarded up for years. Although I didn’t notice any visible smoke , something didn’t smell right. It turns out that there was a small fire but the firemen dealt with it in no time at all. I’ve no idea how a fire started in a derelict house, maybe it was kids ?
